CYCLING AUSTRALIA ELITE NATIONAL ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Fine weather greeted a well organised National Championships in Ballarat. The Criterium was in the centre of the Ballarat CBD, the ITT just near Bunninyong some 10k from Ballarat and the Road Race was around the Mt Helen circuit finishing in the Bunninyong main street. . There was much discussion about "where to" in 2018 (see story below).

Criterium Under 23 - Peter Livingstone (BiciSport) was in several moves early but settled for a comfortable bunch finish in anticipation for Sundays road race

Road Race Under 23 - The U23 RR started with 125 riders in super hot conditions. After 3 laps 5 riders attacked & stayed away until lap 7 (of 13). Then a break of 9 riders chased (including Peter Livingstone) and bridged across forming the front group.  Sam Jenner then soloed off the front with a bunch sprint of 8 riders contesting the Silver medal. A super courageous effort by Peter who was slightly distanced on the last climb but fought his way back to contest the Silver medal bunch sprint. Just 24 riders finished a super tough 132k.

Etape on Dec 3 - The first Etape had delightful weather and started at Thredbo with the finish in Perisher, The ride itself turned difficult after Berridale with strong headwinds and the super difficult 4k climb to Dalgety. Very few of the peloton actually rode the Dalgety climb and the overwhelming majority walked the climb in hot conditions. Sue Tierney used 39x28 on the Dalgety climb and even a super fit Sue T managed a small walk ... even elite NRS riders were seen holding onto cars to get up the Dalgety wall. The 25k to Perisher was equally punishing with numerous riders reduced to walking again. Congratulations to BiciSport riders Sue & Graham Tierney, David Cooper & Tom Green on a very difficult day

BEAR COTTAGE CHARITY TRAINING RIDE - SUNDAY 27 NOVEMBER

The annual Bear Cottage Charity Ride is on Sunday 27 November and is a must do charity ride from the Fixed Wheel cycle shop at Manly. The ride usually departs in 2 groups from the Fixed Wheel then along Pittwater Rd to Church Point and returns along Pittwater Rd for "the worlds greatest morning tea" at the Pilu Restaurant at Freshwater at approximately 9.00am. As training rides go this is a great cause only matched by the hospitality of the Fixed Wheel and Gio Pilu. Donations (for Bear Cottage) for the training ride is just $20 per head and the Pilu morning tea is another $20. There is also a community auction at the Pilu Restaurant to raise much needed funds for Bear Cottage. Meeting time at Fixed Wheel is 6.10am for a 6.30am departure in 2 groups. Please ensure you wear your BiciSport team clothing.

Bear Cottage Charity Ride is Sunday 27 November departing from the Fixed Wheel in Manly at 6.30am
