Kelme Professional Cycling Team is more a case of what you can’t say in defense of the indefensible. This team defined the term indefensible.
Established in Spain from 1986 until 2006 with Kelme (shoes), Costa Blanca (Regional Government) with bike sponsorship from Gios or Merckx. Groupsets were Campagnolo.
A patchwork quilt of “quality” riders in respect of Valverde, Heras, Sevilla, Casero & Escartin & Co. The team was much more infamous for the Manzano doping allegations from systemic blood doping and the Operation Puerto doping allegations. In short, a team full of results with two victories in the Tour of Spain but much more notable for the less appealing aspects of a great sport.
