BICISPORT TO THE TUMUT CYCLE CLASSIC ON SUNDAY 10 JANUARY
A little gem of a cyclosportive not that far from Sydney over great roads with some stunning scenery thrown in for good measure. There are 11 BiciSport riders going to Tumut and full details are listed in the Special Events section of this website. Hope to see you there.
Welcome to 2021 - Eddy Ver Bust (left) is on the organising committee of the Gent 6 Day and together with Kenny De Ketele (2019 Gent 6 Winner) they wish you a happy 2021.
Eddy has assisted many BiciSport riders to Belgium over the years.
Mike Cori (BiciSport) dug this one out of the historical vault … Just Juice Team circa 1989 @ Taronga Park Zoo Ferry Terminal - Mike Cori (centre) organised the local team sponsorship with Just Juice who kindly provided the Maserati (with Campagnolo wheels no less) for the team presentation photo. Gewiss Professional Cycling Team (1987-1997). Sponsor was Gewiss (Italian electrical engineering), bikes were De Rosa on Campagnolo groupsets. Team manager was Emanuele Bombini and the Team doctor was Michele Ferrari. The sky blue Gewiss team jersey is now seen as an iconic retro design, especially when matched with a classy De Rosa frameset on the (then) new Campagnolo Ergo indexed gearing system. A blend of elegance, functionality and pure Italian style.
The team itself …. well, where do you start ? … as it was the 1990’s, it was Italy and it was too good to be true. The team won at every pedal stroke with Giro wins by Berzin & Gotti (assisted by Ugrumov), and one day Classic victories by Furlan, Minali & Argentin. Other notable team members were Bobrik (won a Tour of Lombardy), Alberto Vopli and a youthful Bjarne Rijs. The most notable victory was the 1994 Fleche Wallonne Classic in Belgium where the team went 1-2-3 in a blistering 70k breakaway with Argentin, Furlan & Berzin. The ‘94 Fleche podium demolition was generally deemed “too good to be true” and history would tend to suggest that this was indeed the case.

Fleche Wallonne 1994 - the Wall of Huy with 70k to the finish
Fleche Wallonne 1994 - Berzin, Furlan & Argentin headed for the 1-2-3 podium deemed “too good to be true”
Gewiss Team Presentation 1987 - Argentin won the 1986 World Pro Road Championship in Colorado and dominated the one day Classic calendar during his outstanding career
