Giro d’Italia 1965 - the Stelvio stage resorts to cyclocross as a snow avalanche blocks the road but the stage continues. Aldo Moser leads the peloton through the Stelvio snow wall. Aldo was the brother of Francesco Moser, and sadly Aldo recently passed away due to Covid 19 complications. RIP Aldo.
Saeco Professional Cycling Team - Established in 1996 and sponsorship ended at the end of 2004 (team then became Lampre). Saeco was (is) Italian coffee and the bikes were Cannondale loaded with Campagnolo groupsets.
They raced hard, they played hard, they won a lot and big. Obviously you couldn’t get past Mario Cipollini most of the time but the team was much more than just Cipo and over the top publicity. Be it a Francesco Casagrande (one tough unit), Silvio Martinelli, Ivan Gotti (Giro win), Roberto Petito, Salvatore Commesso, Paulo Salvodelli, Stefano Zanini, Gilberto Simoni (Giro win), Fabio Sacchi, Igor Astarloa (2003 World Road Champion) pictured above, Damiano Cunego (Giro win) and Danilo De Luca.
