RACE KEEPER VERSUS RACE SEEKER
The smaller club events have quietly restarted (at Heffron Park, Southern Highlands, Lansdowne Park, Eastern Creek, Penrith, Parramatta & West Head) but the larger promotions and cyclosportives remain in the Covid hurt box. It would be fair to say that mass participation events (with more than 500 starters) have a real problem at present. Covid 19 is most certainly sitting over our shoulder, and you get the sense that apprehension and serious concern is well and truly still with us.
Note that some of the bigger events have recently cancelled, including -
Aug 22 - BiciSport Tour de France Dinner (with CJ Sutton)
Aug 29 - Cootamundra Open
Oct 5 - Gears & Beers Cyclosportive (Wagga)
Oct 10 - World Masters Track Championships (Manchester, UK)
Centennial Park Ride @ 23 July - L to R with Ian Grainger, Mike O’Reilly, Peter Stupka, Ivan Sher, Terry Freshwater & John Crouchley.
The ride is held every Thursday starting at the Spruce Goose Cafe @ 10.30am. All welcome.
COVID 19 & NORTHSIDE TRAFFIC HOTSPOTS - TRAFFIC VOLUMES UP 20%
Caution still needs to be exercised on traditional cycling roads like Pittwater Rd (through Dee Why to Mona Vale) and McCarrs Creek Rd towards Church Point, then into Akuna Bay & West Head. Traffic volumes are much higher than normal
Centennial Park remains very busy with car traffic volumes have increased 20% courtesy of Covid 19
MANLY BEACHFRONT ROAD NOW 30 KPH SPEED LIMITED
Please note the the entire stretch of the Manly-Queenscliff beachfront road is now limited to 30 kph

Alfa Lum # 1 - the team was sponsored by the Italian aluminium manufacturer Alfa Lum from 1982 to 1990. Originally the team was Italian based with some excellent imports (including Australian Michael Wilson). Originally on Olmo framsets, then Legnano, then finally on to Colnago framesets in 1989-90. Campagnolo was the groupset of choice throughout.
In 1989 the team sourced riders from the Soviet Union and team Sports Director Primo Franchini (above) got the Soviet theme humming along. Not sure about a hidden Colnago behind a red curtain (??) and a single shoe (what was that all about ?? .. )
Alfa Lum # 2 - 1989 featured riders with names not particularly soft on the English tongue headed by the sprinter Giamolidin Abdoujapavov (aka the Tashkent Terror). Several riders (including Abdo, Tchmil, Konyshev) progressed to outstanding professional careers.
Alfa Lum # 3 - Barrachi Trophy 2 man time trial in 1989 on Colnago framsets loaded with Campagnolo groupsets
Alfa Lum # 4 - circa 1987 with a heavy reliance on a strong Italian core of exceptional professionals
Alfa Lum # 5 - 1989 saw the team virtually rebuilt around 15 riders from the Soviet Union. The team folded at the end of 1990 with several riders going on to exceptional careers with other professional teams
