RIP Gianni Savio (Italy) just before this New Year … something of a magician in keeping Second Division Italian cycling teams alive in tough financial times. Always with an interesting comment or a controversial view on any cycling subject.

The career of Rik van Looy (left) is celebrated by this popular murial at the Koers Cycling Museum (in the outside laneway) in Roesalare Belgium.

Sadly Rik left us last week at the age of 93.

The rider on the right is also a Belgian (in Behoni Beheyet) who defeated Rik van Looy at the World Pro Road Championships in Ronse Belgium in 1962. Both being Belgian team mates this nearly caused a domestic riot after the finish ... being joined together on a wall in Roeselare would be as close as it gets without fireworks.
