7-Eleven Pro Cycling Team (USA) - 1981-90

One of the original super teams by any measure. Sponsorship was by 7 Eleven (US food chain) until 1991 then it switched to Motorola. Bike sponsors were Schwinn (1981-84), Murray (85-86), Huffy (87-88), Merckx (from 89 into the Motorola years). Hoonved (washing machines) co sponsored the team in Italy as did American Airlines. Tyres were supplied by Wolber and groupsets were Shimano

The womens team was a classy peloton (with Rebecca Twigg), but went one better with Andy Hampsten (won the Tour of Italy in ‘88, and 3rd in Italy in ‘89). The support team was again a classy peloton with Heiden, Grewal, Alcala, Bradley, Demgen, Van Haute, Hayman, Phinney, Kiefel, Stieda, Roll, Shapiro & Yates. The team won stages at Tours of Italy, France & Switzerland.
